I’ve a choice, do I?

Someday I feel what a beautiful day it is, how sweet these moments are... Someday I feel what a day it is, why it is so terrible, why life is not easy!!! Someday I think why I am praising a day, why I am blaming a day... its me who is making my days… I have to ask a question before placing this kind of label to a day, “I’ve a choice, do I?” Then I can definitely find a reason to curb my frustrations and to cheer up! Here I am writing about the normal days, extremes or rare are always exceptional, please do not count them here. I always have a choice to make a day beautiful. Even after realizing this and formulating my ‘question trick’ again I somehow slip to my usual act of spoiling my 'supposed to be beautiful' days… hmmm…. But let me keep trying.

When I am writing about 'choice' I remembered one person whom I met in IRS office recently. As we met and smiled at each other, he started talking about him, his interests, places he traveled and lot many. When he asked about me whether I am an Indian, he started talking about India and its diversity in culture, languages, religions, etc. Initially I didn’t like him much because he talked without a pause and I don’t like people who only expect audience and not leaving a stage for others! But then he talked something about religion, and asked "Why religion is hereditary? Why it can’t be a choice for us?" I felt that question very interesting, from that moment I was not listening to him, even though I presented my face as though I was listening to him, my mind was just wandering around with many thoughts. Someone used to say, you can choose your friends...but not your parents or relatives. True, there are certain things which are hereditary, no rights for a choice to make; your fate will provide you the best or worst! But why religion is hereditary?

I believe religion is a medium to know about the almighty, the super-natural power which is 'God' who guides and helps world. People who believe in God need a medium to know more about him, to be close to him, to convey their feelings to him and thus get relieved. So here actually we should have a choice, to see which kind of medium we like, which ideology is most suitable for the way we want to live our life. But unfortunately we also made religion a way to get our official paper works from the moment one child is born till death certificate, thus we have religion as another hereditary trait. I enjoy asking questions myself even if I don’t get answers. Does my religion matters in any way to the outside world? My belief/disbelief in ‘God’, my communication channel to ‘God’ and everything about my relationship to ‘God’ shouldn’t be my privacy? Anyways with these questions I let my thoughts to float around…
